Giveaway: My Publisher Holiday Cards

Nov

2011

I know, I know you are focused on Thanksgiving right now and it’s hard to start thinking about Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s. But have you ordered your Holiday Cards yet?  If you did, yea for you!  One less thing on the to do list.  If the answer is no, then you’re in luck.  My Publisher is giving one lucky The Zen Mom reader Free Holiday Cards!  ($50 value).

I have always loved My Publisher for photobooks, but did you know they have cards now.  There are a lot of companies that do cards, but I what caught my interest was the value and I’ve always like their quality, so I was curious to try them out.   Average cost for about 50 cards run about $1.49 and go down $1.39 if you get 100 or more. They don’t charge extra for envelope liners, printed return address or shipping. (Although I did upgrade to 2 day shipping for $1.99 (well worth it) standard shipping can take up to 5 days and I didn’t want to wait so I could get this post up!)

You do have to download the My Publisher software and make sure you have the latest version of Safari, Google Chrome to design the cards, but it was really simple to just click and drag my favorite photos into my card design.  It only took a few days to make.  So in all it took about a week.  I really like the quality and the extras. Cool!  I’m done.  Here’s the design I chose.  I liked this layout because  I could use up to 5 photos on the front and even one on the back.  That way you can use individual photos too! You know how hard it is to get that family shot where everyone is looking. Can’t wait to send them out!

Review: Baby Hip Hugger by Baby Nari

If you carry your kids on your hip a lot like I do, you are probably feeling a little crooked. Now there’s something that offers some support -The Baby Hip Hugger.

When I first saw it I thought what a great invention, but I wasn’t sure how it would really work.  It looks like a giant fanny pack that velcros around the waist and then clips together.  It offers support by evenly distributing the weight of the baby to relieve pressure on the back and helps maintain better posture.  It also gives your arms a break too so you can carry your little one longer.  It felt a little awkward at first, but I now I use it all the time.

I like to use it for quick trips when I can’t or don’t feel like getting the stroller out.  It’s perfect when I have both my kids and have to drop my 3 year old at preschool fast. With the Baby Hip Hugger I can carry my 20 month old daughter with just one hand and hold my son’s hand at the same time.  Since she’s not strapped in, I can pick her up and put her down anytime. My daughter always wants to walk on her own, but then 2 minutes later she wants to be picked up again, then put down, then picked up.  Not great for my back or my arms.  Now at least I have a little more support so I won’t walk around crooked anymore.

It’s different than my Baby Bjorn, which I used when my kids were really young, because it’s not hands free, but it’s perfect for when they start walking and still want to be held.  You have to make sure to wear it tight around your waist so it doesn’t dig into your hip.
You can wear it different sitting options, like facing in or out and to the side.   The Baby Hip Hugger comes in 2 sizes.  I have the toddler version.   As you can see from the photo I’m a lefty when it comes to carrying my baby.   I try to change it up, but the other side feels weird.  How about you?

Kitchen Helper vs. Learning Tower

Guidecraft Kitchen Helper

 Little Partners Learning Tower

If you’re looking for a stepstool for your toddler- here’s a better long-term alternative that is safe. They look identical and do pretty much the same thing, but how do you choose between the two?  Now that my son is almost 2 he loves helping in the kitchen and being with everyone.  When I was pregnant it was hard to pick him up all the time to wash his hands and he kept trying to stand on his tippy toes and pull things off of the table and counter, which was dangerous. Then my friend told me about these products, but which one do you choose?

Click Here to see a video comparing the two products.  You decide.

I decided to go with the Little Partners Learning Tower.  It’s a little more expensive than the kitchen helper, but seemed more sturdy and can fit 2 kids, which is good for me since I have 2 now. The kitchen helper folds up so it’s more convenient if you want to hide it away.

(Update:  I have used the Learning Tower for more than a year now. Both my kids can climb up and down on it.  I like it, but make sure you have space in your kitchen because its not super light and not easy to move from room to room.)
