Don’t get me wrong, I’m not always so zen and that’s the point of my blog. The Zen Mom is about to trying to keep the balance and peace in your life while dealing with the wonderful chaos of being a parent. It’s about your journey as a mom, but not forgetting your journey as a woman.
I’ve always been more of a Type A personality. I’m driven by success. I’ve always worked hard and tried to do things the “right” way. That worked for most of my life. But when I became a mom I realized no matter how much I tried to prepare or control what happened there wasn’t always a “right” way and that was really frustrating. I started searching for answers from the internet, from books, from other moms and discovered this community of information and support, but it was also a little overwhelming.
I started The Zen Mom as a way to sort through all the info out there and share with others resources I found and what I learned from my experiences. Now as a mother of 2, I realize being a Zen Mom is not just about finding and trying to do what’s best for your children and your family, but also about continuing to nurture your mind and soul. It’s about inspiring yourself so you can inspire your children and the world.
Since I started this blog I have discovered a lot about myself and evolved and in some ways I have become The Zen Mom. I’ve always done yoga, but I didn’t use to meditate, I do now. I’m still Type A, but I have a different mission and purpose, I’m still a foodie and love a little junk now and then, but I really believe in the power of clean eating and a healthy lifestyle. I love meeting soulful individuals and learning from them and sharing their message to help people live a better life.
I love what The Zen Mom has become. What started as a journal for an over-tired first time mom sitting behind a computer trying to figure out which baby bottle is best or how to get my kids sleep-trained, has evolved into everything I believe in. It’s about rediscovering who you are and what you stand for. It’s about who you want to be for yourself, for your children, for the world.

I’m a first generation Chinese American born on the East Coast, but grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Mandarin Chinese was my first language.
I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Communication degree. After college, I lived in China and studied at Nanjing University. I spent most of life focused on my career. I always wanted to work in television. From my first job at Paramount Pictures to working my way up from a small market TV reporter back to my hometown in Los Angeles where I was a reporter/anchor for KCBS/KCAL and KNBC for 6 years.
After my first child was born I left news. Now my focus is on hosting, speaking, my media training and consulting company- Zen Media Inc. and keeping up with my 2 kids (7 year old son and 5 year old girl).

I Write About
My husband always says I ask too many questions. As a news anchor and reporter that was my job. I covered hundreds of stories, asked tough questions, and researched all sides. Now as a parent, I do the same thing. Each time I reach a milestone with my children I spend hours researching what’s best when it comes to my family-advice, products, recipes, whatever.
In “Knowledge” I share facts, information, and lessons I have learned.
It’s hard to be inspired all the time, but I always love a good quote, a moving story, a beautiful photo, a good lesson to keep me motivated and passionate about life. In “Zenspirational Women” we share the inspirational story behind the women (from entreprenuers to moms on a mission and their words of wisdom.
In “Zenspiration” I share things to keep you motivated and empowered.
Motherhood is magical, but it can also be frustrating and boring, we need to remember the joy and laughter.
In “Laughter” I hope to make you smile or LOL!
Behind the Scenes
People always ask me what’s its like to work in television. From insider secrets to what it takes to make it all happen to interesting personalities and events. Now that I’m in the blogging world I also share insight from social media conferences and events.
In “Behind the Scenes” I give you an inside look at the “work” me vs. the “mom” me.
I’m not a chef, but I’m a foodie. I love to cook. I hate to do dishes. I love to eat. I grew up in a restaurant family, Chinese of course. My father started as a waiter and eventually our family owned a small restaurant in Beverly Hills (which is now an Italian cafe-different owner). He wasn’t a chef, but he taught me how to cook. I also believe in healthy living and eat organic whenever I can.
In Food, I share some secrets from the wok, my favorite healthy recipes for my children, and “foodie” reviews of some fabulous restaurants.
When I was young, we couldn’t afford to travel much. Although I did go to Taiwan since I had family there. My husband on the other hand was the opposite- always moving around and is still a travel junkie and always planning our next trip. Since we’ve been married we have traveled around the world together. Now that we have kids he believes in sharing this love of travel and exposure to other cultures with our children.
In Travel -I share fun things to do and our worldwide adventures with our kids and without! 🙂
