Happy Monday! I just got back from Blogher New York. It was definitely a whirlwind. Being back in NewYork in the summer also brought back a lot of memories. I interned in New York the summer of my junior year of college and I always love going back. I arrived Wednesday night and knowing that the craziness would start the next day I took it easy, found a yoga studio near the hotel then just walked around bit before getting some NY Chinese take-out. Here’s a shot of the city just after sunset.
I also walked by the Late Show, that night I watched the show on TV and Bieber was on and to think I just missed him by a few hours.:)
I attended several workshops, including Pathfinder Day with Kathryn Finney of The Budget Fashionista and Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen. Two very successful women who have created their own brands and media companies. Both are very business savvy, but what I loved most about them was their heart, their fabulous sense of humor, and their vision for themselves and for others.
Here are few things I learned that not only apply to business, but to life.
-Know What You Stand For.
-Feel Confident In The Decisions That You Make-don’t second guess yourself, trust your gut and then stick with it.
-Learn To Let Go Of Control, Let Others Help And Focus On What You’re Good At.
-It’s Okay To Say No.
-Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For What You Want
I love Jaden’s philosophy of “Magical Moments.” She says that’s what she lives for and it defines how she lives her life, how she runs her business and how she wants to spend her time. She says a while back she had accomplished everything she wanted and realized she wasn’t happy. She was overextending herself and working too much. She re-shifted her priorities back to family and hopes to keep that balance even with all her success. I love Kathryn’s passion and personality, a strong woman who is not afraid to be herself.
Thanks ladies for sharing your wisdom!
But Blogher wasn’t all business, I’ll share more inspiration and laughter from the parties, the keynotes from President Obama, Martha Stewart and Katie Couric and some of the new products and trends later this week.
