If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like on a TV news set.  Here’s a look behind the desk.  For the morning show the anchors are everywhere from behind the anchor desk, off to the side with a cameraman with a handheld where Bridget and I were for The Zen Mom to outside for other guest segments.  Never a dull moment in Live TV.   For the 8:25 segment.  I arrived about 45 minutes early.  Which is early, but not in news time.  The show starts at 5 am so if you ever want to be on a morning show you need to be willing to get up early.  And always be ready to go in case they need you earlier or for a tease (that’s just a shot to promote the segment coming up sometimes 5-10 minutes prior to your segment.  I was met by one of the producers and  set up everything right next to the news desk while they were live on the air.  There was a green room with mirror, sofa, and TV right next to the set to wait.

It’s always nice to have visuals to convey your point.  Yes, even though my points may be super interesting, 🙂  you don’t always just want to see a talking head.   I even framed my logo for a visual. Morning segments usually last about 3-5 minutes depending on how much time the producer gives you.   So you want to stay on point, so you have enough time to share all your good information.  Be prepared that you may get cut short so always put your most important information at the top. It was a fun morning packed with zen tips for moms!

As a former anchor it’s fun to be on the other side of the interview as well.  If you’re interested in getting media coverage check out my media training tips on  How To Pitch!
